Project: 100 Pipers

Agency: Wonderworks Communications

Client: Seagram’s 100 Pipers

The Brief: To create a key visual for the new Spanish market, featuring the product in a Scottish landscape with a shadow of the pipers.

For recreating the Scottish landscape we had to include specific elements of mountains, hills, and a lake with a colour palette that would partly reflect the products warm tones. After a couple of days trawling through stock photography sites we had enough images and elements to produce an initial set of six montaged landscapes from which one was chosen to go forward for the final visual.

With this we could then photograph the bottle in the studio matching the angle of the camera and direction of light to fit into the landscape. Final retouching of the background could then begin, blending all the various shots into one, removing numerous roaming sheep (apparently you can’t show animals in alchol advertising in Spain) before adding the bottle. Colour work was then done bringing in some of the orange and yellow tones from the whisky into the grass before blending it out into the remaining grass. The image was completed by adding the shadow of the marching pipers onto the background, and transforming it to follow the contours of the landscape.
